From the Principal-Letter to parents regarding the sexual assault @ Browning and Broadview yesterday evening

Dear Parents/Guardians:

This morning, police issued a safety alert about an incident that was reported to have happened in our community last night. At about 9:00 pm, a 16-year-old girl was walking in the Broadview Avenue/Browning Avenue area when she was attacked.

While this incident did not involve our school in any direct way, we all take an active interest in neighbourhood safety so we are sharing this report with you. Anyone who might have information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7474, through Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or online at www.222tips.com. Police are looking for a man described as white, approximately 40, 6′-6′.1″ and with facial stubble. At the time, he was wearing dark, baggy sweatpants, a button-up type shirt and dark jacket.

We are fortunate to have a number of safety initiatives, programs, and policies that contribute to a safe and caring school. However, most incidents happen away from school and outside of school hours. I want to emphasize again to all our students, staff, and parents the need to be aware and alert at all times.

Our staff regularly speaks to students about how to stay safe. I know that you too will want to help ensure our community is as safe as possible. Please find streetproofing tips attached to this post (click on the link below), that you may find helpful when discussing safety with your child.
