Silverbirch Reading Program

The annual Ontario Library Association‘s Silverbirch Reading programmes have begun in our library. A number of students have signed up for one or more of the programmes so far. There are three programmes the students can choose from. Silverbirch Express targets students in grades 3 and 4 with a selection of ten fiction and non-fiction books. Silverbirch Non- Fiction‘s ten titles are for students in grades 5 and 6, and for very strong grade 4 readers. Silverbirch’s Fiction titles target the same audience and the non-fiction selections. To participate students must read at least five titles from one programme before the end of April. On April 20th all students who have completed at least five books in one reading programme will get to vote for their favourite book, and help decide which author will win this year’s big prize.

We have copies of all the books in our library. Participants can also reserve titles through the local public library.

Encourage your child to participate in this great opportunity to get to know some of Canada’s best current children’s authors.
