Jackman Wins With a Healthy, Active School Environment

Physical Health & Education Canada LogoI’m pleased to announce that our school has been awarded the 2011-12 Gold Award from Physical and Health Education Canada for it’s commitment to a healthy active school environment. The award identifies and encourages school physical education programs that are committed to Quality Daily Physical Education (QDPE) and provide opportunities within the school to be physically active in a variety of creative ways. For example, this past term, in the period between Jan – March the teachers offered folk dancing, rowing club, intramural line soccer for students in the primary grades, intramural co-ed basketball gr. 4 and 5, junior fun fit runs, and school teams in co-ed hockey, girls volleyball, gr. 5 and 6, and boys basketball, gr. 5 and 6.
The permanent award will be on display in the school by May. I congratulate all staff for their wonderful contribution to the children of our school community and to the high number of active students who make this commitment outside of their classroom learning time.
