Jack Layton Tree Dedication Ceremony

Jack Layton Tree Dedication Ceremony

Eastern Redbud at the South End of the Maze

Jackman Avenue Public School
Friday, September 28, 2012 at 2pm

Jack Layton was a leader at Jackman Public School. He was our elected Member of Parliament since 2003 and he was also the leader of the New Democrat Party (NDP). During the 2011 federal election Jack’s leadership led his party to become the Official Opposition of the Government, a first for the NDP.

Before Jack Layton achieved these national milestones he was a Toronto city counselor representing the Toronto Danforth ward. During his tenure serving the city Jack was part of many positive environmental initiatives.

Jack’s determined enthusiasm for our Millennium Garden and Green Roof projects was inspiring. He was there at City Hall to present Jackman with our first of many awards recognizing the extraordinary environmental accomplishments of our students, staff, parents and community. This spirit continues today at Jackman where our students successfully advocated to the city to recycle plastic clamshell containers.

Sadly Jack Layton died last year. We will miss his leadership and enthusiasm but he has left us with these thoughtful words:

“My friends,
Love is better than anger.
Hope is better than fear.
Optimism is better than despair.

So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic.
And we’ll change the world.”

Please join us for this special event. Everyone is welcome!
