In addition to regular business and updates, we have a presentation and Q&A on Tech for Teaching (the use of technology in our schools, the benefits and limitations, and the board’s overall tech strategy).

Regular business starts at 7 pm, with updates from trustee, superintendent and committees. The presentation starts at 8 pm.

Social Media Zombies: A Presentation for Parents and Educators by Steve Chapelle
Tuesday, May 5, 7-9 pm
(doors open at 6:30 pm)
Where:  Westwood Middle School
(994 Carlaw Avenue)

Childcare will be provided, but the presentation is for parents and educators only

Join Westwood School Council for an examination of the importance of applying critical thinking during social media usage. We will explore these concerns from an Android and iOS perspective:

  •  Cyberbullying
  •  Willful self-exposure
  •  Unsecured confidential information

Risks, examples, and, most importantly, prevention measures will be presented. Questions will be welcomed after the presentation.

Steve Chapellehas been providing social media behaviour education to Ontario schools and parents since 2006. Through this period he has also given information management best practices training to Canadian small business associations. Prior to this, he spent 25 years in management and analyst roles across a range of technology.
