Each year, the school board must comply with Ministry of Education guidelines for class sizes. In order to comply, we must wait to see what our classroom sizes will be, and we cannot determine this until all families have enrolled for the school year and all students are present come mid-September. This year, we are over our classroom caps in our FDK English, as well as in our Grades 4, 5, and 6 English programs. To address the large class sizes, we have been allocated additional teachers, one for FDK and one for the Junior division, to help us reduce overall class sizes. This is great news as we will be able to provide smaller classes for our students. While I understand that this news may cause concern, please be assured that we will work to ensure that the transition is smooth and fully supported for each child. Our Staffing Committee met to establish the new school model, presented below, and the teaching staff have met and worked diligently to create new classes that support the needs of all of the students.
FDKA: 28 students (McCullough)
FDKB: 29 students (Recke)
FDKC: 28 students (Douzenis)
FDKD: 28 students (Arnone DiMondo)
FDKE (new): 15 students (Motala)
Grade 4A: 22 students (Cheng)
Grade 4B (new): 22 students (Lawrence)
Grade 5: 25 students (Archibald)
Grade 5/6: 24 students (Mohammed)
Grade 6: 26 students (Baker)
We will be sending out more information on Thursday with respect to the changes per grade, and we welcome Asma Motala as our new FDK teacher and Ian Lawrence as our new Grade 4 teacher. We have full confidence that they will create rich and engaging learning environments for our students. Both teachers will be in on Friday to begin to set up the new classrooms, and we will bring the students in these new classes around to visit their new learning space. Thank you for your support and understanding during this transition.
