Every September, schools across the province review actual student enrolment as compared to initial projections from last April, and reorganize classes where required. We do our best to plan for the new school year, but there are always factors, such as new or departing students, that might affect how classrooms are organized. In addition, to ensure smaller class sizes, the Ministry of Education sets out specific class size requirements to benefit student learning.
As a result of changing student enrolment at our school, we have been allocated two (2.5) additional teaching staff. This will help reduce the overall size of some of our classrooms to support increased student achievement and well-being. The task of reorganizing classrooms is done with very thoughtful consideration by staff and administration, and we know that for students and parents, changing classes or classmates may be difficult and may require an adjustment period. Students will be supported as they transition through these classroom changes. Classroom changes will take effect Monday, September 26, 2016.
With the new staff allocation, we have created a new Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) class, a new Grade 4/5 French Immersion (FI) class, and made changes to our Junior English classrooms with a new Grade 4/5 English to support student success through smaller class sizes.
We recognize that for some families, our Meet the Teacher Night will be postponed to reflect the new class placement for their child. We are working to set a new date for this opportunity for parents in the near future with our new classroom teachers in FDK and Grade 4/5FI. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher.
At Jackman Avenue Jr. Public School, we are looking forward to a successful and rewarding school year.
