Thank you to all of our parents who came out for parent/teacher interviews last Thursday and Friday. It was a great opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, hear about your child’s strengths and next steps, and review their progress to date. Term One report cards go home February 14, 2017. Special thanks to our Grade 6 Ambassadors who provided a warm Jackman welcome to our families.
On Thursday November 24, the Jackman Library welcomes author Elizabeth Muir for the book launch of her latest book for children… Air-Crazy: Fascinating Stories of Canadian Women in the Air, and Libre Comme L’Air: Histoires Fascinantes des Pionnières de L’Aviation Canadienne. Mrs. Muir will also be bringing some special guests with her for us to meet! We welcome teachers, librarians and parents to the book launch which will be after school in the library from 4 to 6 p.m.
Online Cookie Dough Sales Begin November 24
Mmmmm, the smell of warm cookies baking in the oven over the holiday season. To make it easier, each year the Parent Council organizes a Cookie Dough Sale for our families, and online orders are being accepted starting November 24. To order online, go to the following site: http://munchalunch.com/schools/JackmanAvenue/ . You may also order in person at the main office; please bring a cheque (payable to Jackman School Council) or cash. The sale ends December 2, 2016 and orders will be delivered to the school on Thursday, December 15, to be picked up after 3:30 p.m.
*In the spirit of the season, $2,000 of the cookie dough proceeds will be shared with a school in need.
It’s Friday Night Family Movie Night! We are hosting our first Movie Night of the year this Friday, November 25 in the GPR. Bring your blanket/sleeping bag and pillow, and cuddle up together to watch “Secret Lives of Pets”. This fun, free family event is organized by our Parent Council, and everyone gets a small bag of popcorn to enjoy. Movie Night begins at 7 p.m. in the GPR. See you there!
Brrrr, It’s Wintery Out There
With the change in the season upon us, we remind all families that it’s time to take out all that winter gear to help make recess time fun and safe. Hats, gloves/mitts, scarves, winter coats, and boots all help keep our students warm and cheery when outdoors. Please check the Lost and Found regularly!
TFSS Red Nose Campaign Coming Soon
Our Grade 6 Student Council has met and they are beginning the process of planning Spirit Days and special Equity initiatives for our school community. One special initiative they will be organizing is the (TFSS) Toronto Foundation for Student Success’s Red Nose Campaign. This campaign helps provide warm clothing, food, and other necessities to Toronto families in need. Or Student Council will be selling the ‘red noses’ and we will hold a special “Red Nose Day” to celebrate their efforts to raise funds for the foundation. All proceeds will be forwarded to TFSS. PA Day – Friday, December 2
Please note that Friday, December 2 is a PA Day. There are no classes for students. Our staff members will be engaged in professional learning activities throughout the day.

Our First Winter Concert – December 21
Our students and staff are hard at work preparing for our first concert of the year. The following classes will be performing in the GPR, starting at 7:00 p.m.: Room P3 (Pace), Room P2 (Godin), Room 102 (Smith), Room 201 (Hafner), Room 314 (Cheng), Room 211 (Plytas), and our Primary Choir with Ms. Singh.
Winter Break Dates
Mark your calendars with the dates for our Winter Break – December 24 to January 8, 2017! The last day of school will be December 23, and we return on January 9.
